Energy drinks top beverage sales in Australia

Energy drinks are outselling all other convenience beverage formats in Australia and growing at 19.9% according to Nutraingredients.com, citing data from market analyst, AC Nielsen.

The report looked into convenience and impulse buying habits and found energy drinks had grown at 19.9% quarter to quarter over 2009, compared to 9.6% for carbonated beverages as a whole.

Iced tea grew 17.3%; cola grew 6.2%; water, 4.8%; flavoured beverages, 5%; and sports drinks 2%.
